Sell quality photos online via microstock sites such as Fotolia, Big Stock Photo, Dreamstime and 123RF, for free.

Microstock sites sell the images at cheap prices so that more images are downloaded. This means that your earnings per download are low but that more of them will be downloaded.

This way of earning money is good because once you've uploaded the photos, they remain there on sale 24/7, so the more you upload, the more income you make and it keeps building. It's also free to list your photos as long as they are accepted, whereas some of the stock sites charge you a fee for the storage.

The highest earners for me are listed first below. It may be different for you because different photos seem to sell on different sites but it's a place to start.

Fotolia - Sell Your Photos Online - Fotolia is a microstock site where you can sell your photos online. You upload quality photos in jpeg format, minimum 2400 x 1600 pixels (4MP) and then you earn each time someone downloads one of your photos.

BigStockPhoto - BigStockPhoto is again a microstock site where you can sell quality photos online as long as they are a minimum of 800 pixels along one side and 72 dpi minimum.

Dreamstime Stock Photos - Sell your high quality photos via Dreamstime. It's a Microstock site but they seem a little bit fussier about the quality and subject of what you upload. Images have to be at least 3 Megapixels in size and they don't accept images which they already have lots of but that's good as it gives everyone a chance to sell.

123RF - Sell royalty-free photos online at 123RF. You will need to provide ID before you start uploading photos to this site and once you've done that, you have to upload your best 10 images and wait to see if they approve you. Images need to be at least 4 Million pixels (2200 x 1700).
